Godfather 1

This was a painting inspired by original Godfather film, which starred Marlon Brando as the head of a Mafia family in the late 1940s in New York. It was done at the same time as another painting in the featured Portfolio: The Black Hand.

Both are images of antiheroes, using vivid, contrasting colors. The Black Heart is also a related work, and a companion piece to The Black Hand. Both paintings received First Place awards in juried competitions.

The film uses the Mafia as a metaphor for the American Dream and capitalism, where the pursuit of wealth, power, and respect can become distorted and corrupting. Every major character is defined by the choices they make, and the irreversible consequences of those decisions.
